The NSCN-IM has strongly condemned the killing of six Naga civilians in Manipur, describing the incident as a “barbaric” atrocity and calling for immediate justice and accountability.
In an editorial titled “Beyond Murder: The Weaponisation of Desecration” published in the latest issue of its monthly bulletin Nagalim Voice, the NSCN-IM alleged that the six civilians were abducted, tortured and killed by Kuki militants. It asserted that no political cause, ethnic grievance or territorial claim could justify violence against unarmed civilians.
The organisation also criticised the Government of India over the continuing violence in Manipur, alleging that it had failed in its responsibility to protect innocent civilians and restore law and order.
According to the editorial, the killings highlighted the need for the Centre to reassess its approach towards the region and address the security concerns and aspirations of indigenous communities. It further argued that justice, accountability and meaningful political engagement were essential to prevent further violence.
The NSCN-IM said the deaths of the six civilians should serve as a turning point rather than become “another forgotten headline,” and called for a transparent investigation and stringent action against those responsible for the killings.
