The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) has issued a strong condemnation of the “unfortunate and shocking” incident that occurred on the night of July 26, 2024, at The Ocean Lounge in Khuman Lampak, Imphal. In a press statement, the NSCN-IM detailed the violent assault on a young Naga woman and her six friends by armed members of the UNLF (Pambei), an Imphal valley-based organization.

According to the NSCN-IM, the assault began with verbal abuse and mishandling of the young woman, escalating to physical molestation and the brandishing of firearms. When her friends intervened to rescue her, they were also severely beaten.

“The way the unruly members of UNLF (Pambei) attacked a young Naga lady who was verbally abused, mishandled and followed by physical molestation and even brandishing firearms and beating up severely to the other six friends who came to rescue her is highly condemnable,” stated the NSCN-IM.

The statement further questioned the legality and morality of the assault, molestation, and the violation of the woman’s modesty, emphasizing that such acts of violence against innocent civilians are unacceptable in society.
“UNLF(Pambei) authority must keep a tight rein on such elements within the group if justice is to be done,” added the NSCN.
