Chairman Q Tuccu calls NNPGs “not the master of their own,” says talks under Indian Constitution compromise Naga political identity

Marking the 10th anniversary of the Framework Agreement (FA) signed between the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) on August 3, 2015, NSCN-IM Chairman Q Tuccu issued a statement stressing that the Framework Agreement marked a significant moment in the Indo-Naga political discourse as it “symbolically acknowledged the existence of Naga nation” and recognised the “unique history of the Nagas” by the Government of India.

In the statement, Tuccu addressed internal dilemmas within the Naga political landscape, warning: “Nagas are at crossroads, how to bring out working system between the NSCN and WC/NNPGs to find common ground for Naga political solution.”

He made it clear that for NSCN, working with the NNPGs was “a dangerous proposition.” He alleged that the NNPGs “propagate Naga political solution under the Constitution of India” and are “not the master of their own. Government of India agency hold the rein.”

Tuccu said NSCN, as “the torchbearer of Naga political movement,” could “never take the risk by working with the very groups who have compromised the historical and political identity of the Nagas.”

“It is unimaginable for NSCN to share platform with the groups with contrasting stand on Naga political solution. The treacherous politics of NNPGs is no longer hidden from others,” he stated. He also claimed that the “Agreed Position” signed by NNPGs is merely a “copycat of Framework Agreement under the deceitful name ‘Agreed Position’.”

“Framework Agreement and Agreed Position are poles apart and we see no meeting point whatsoever,” the Chairman asserted.

Tuccu highlighted what he described as a critical juncture for the Naga people, saying, “Nagas are therefore, at crossroads between words and deeds.” He further framed the divide as a choice “between the call of India to settle for Naga political solution under the banner of the Constitution of India and voice of historical conscience, the call of God-given history with our own constitution and flag.” (Full text here)
