The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision granting bail to Alemla Jamir after more than six years in custody, and expressed gratitude to her legal team and the judiciary for what it described as the delivery of justice.
In a press release issued on January 13, the NSCN-IM said Jamir’s incarceration for six years was a “significant test of endurance and patience where the spirit of resilience refused to die.”
The group thanked the legal team for their “never ending patience” in securing her release and acknowledged the role of senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Tanveer Ahmed Mir for their efforts “within the constitutional rights and principles” to set her free.
The NSCN-IM also acknowledged the Supreme Court of India, stating that it had shown that justice was served to Jamir by upholding constitutional principles. Saluting Jamir, the NSCN-IM said, “Great is the person whose dignity and integrity remain intact without any sign of wavering,” and praised her for upholding resilience and strength during her years in jail.

The Supreme Court on Monday granted regular bail to Jamir, an accused linked to the NSCN-IM, noting her prolonged incarceration and the progress of the trial. A Bench of Justice MM Sundresh and Justice N Kotiswar Singh observed that several witnesses had already been examined and took into account the fact that she is a woman.
Jamir was arrested in 2019 and charged under provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. The top court granted bail subject to conditions to be imposed by the trial court.
