On its 46th Naga Republic Day, NSCN-K (Niki) reaffirmed its commitment to Naga sovereignty and warned that only unified action can secure the future of the Naga Nation. Speaking at the GHQ People’s Army of Nagaland Designated Camp in Suruhuto, Gen Niki Sumi called on Nagas to overcome internal divisions and build on the “unshakeable foundations” laid by their forefathers.

Paying tribute to Naga martyrs and patriots, Sumi emphasized the sacrifices of those who faced harassment and ven death in Indian and Myanmar towns simply for their identity. “The time has come to assess our current situation and unite to advance our aspirations,” he said, urging the present generation to take bold steps toward a sovereign Naga Nation for Christ.
Addressing internal divisions, Sumi criticized what he described as a “frog in a well” mindset, warning that history will judge harshly those who fail to contribute to the collective national cause. He reminded Nagas that the struggle for freedom has been built on eight decades of sacrifices and that inaction now risks rendering past efforts meaningless.
Ato Kilonser Starson Lamkang reinforced the faction’s stand on unity, declaring that “only after unity will the next steps be decided by the Naga people.” He emphasized that NSCN/GPRN (K) continues to remain outside the Framework Agreement and Agreed Position, maintaining a ceasefire with the Government of India but refusing to engage in political dialogue until full unity is achieved.
Lamkang also reaffirmed the group’s commitment to defending Naga sovereignty and identity, stating that these principles will be upheld indefinitely. “Our forefathers navigated geopolitical realities with decisive steps; now we must contribute collectively to our legacy,” he said, calling on all Nagas to uphold their responsibilities for the nation’s future.
The NSCN-K (Niki) Republic Day celebrations thus combined solemn remembrance of martyrs with a renewed call for unity, vigilance, and unwavering pursuit of sovereignty, signaling that the faction sees no alternative path forward until Naga unity is achieved.
