Mokokchung, 3 March (MTNews): In a bid to preserve the moral, cultural, and religious values of the Naga people, the NSCN/GPRN-K (Niki) has voiced strong opposition to “external” influences promoting what they perceive as “unhealthy behaviour, unrighteous and unethical ways of life which contradicts moral, cultural and religious values of the Naga people.”

In a statement issued on Sunday by its MIP, the NSCN/GPRN-K (Niki) said that these influences are seen as an intentional effort to divert the minds of the Naga youth away from their cultural and religious beliefs.

“Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ), alien to the Naga society and something that was never heard of among the Naga people, is trying make a foothold in Naga society to corrupt and tow away the minds of Naga people especially the younger generation from our cultural and religious beliefs,” the NSCN-GPRN-K (Niki) said. “The intent of evil is and ever has been to deceive and to get someone to call it good,” it added.

Highlighting the seriousness of the situation, the NSCN/GPRN said that it is not only posing a serious threat to the moral ethics of the Nagas but is also against the teachings of Christianity.

“The NSCN/GPRN shall not be blinded and allow external elements to replace our traditional and religious values with unrighteous and unethical ways of life,” it said.

“The Nagas, as Christians, shall not tolerate people (non-locals) coming from elsewhere trying to destroy the fabric of our society,” it maintained, while adding that the Naga people, including the churches, must remain vigilant against such external forces attempting to erode the foundation of their society.

“Nagas including the churches must be ever vigilant about such evil forces trying to destroy the existence of our society and also educate and counsel the younger generation who are potentially vulnerable to such bad influences,” it said.

The NSCN/GPRN, in an assertive statement, directed “those non-locals, who have come from elsewhere propagating and encouraging LGBTQ, to leave Naga inhabited areas within 3 (three) days’ time.” The statement further warned that it will not be held responsible for any negative reactions that may result from the failure to comply with the directive.
