The NSCN-K (Niki) has issued a statement refuting media reports on the alleged abduction case involving its members, asserting that the Nagaland Police misrepresented the events of March 23, 2025.

The organization, through a statement from its MIP, stated it was “compelled to issue this statement to shed light about the true chain of events” after some local dailies published reports under the headline ”Police arrest 4 in abduction case.”

According to the NSCN-K (Niki), its members intercepted a truck bearing registration number AS01PC-6016 at Pherima village based on information about a contraband consignment of sunflower being transported. The group claimed that upon investigating the matter and inquiring about the kingpin, police arrested four of its members.

“The police demanded the seized consignment of Sunflower be handed over to them in exchange for the release of our members,” the group alleged, adding that “on receiving the consignment of Sunflower, the police wrongfully registered the kidnapping case against our members.”

Criticizing what it termed as “the habitual highhandedness of Nagaland Police,” the outfit accused the force of acting as “the Judge, Jury and Executioner” and questioned the status of the seized consignment. It further asked whether the contraband sunflower had been legalized by the state government, as “the returned contraband Sunflower has not been mentioned in their trial by media.”

Condemning the media’s portrayal of the incident, the NSCN-K (Niki) stated, “Grabbing eyeballs with sensationalism is the least expected duty of the so-called Disciplined force ‘Nagaland Police’.”
