Amidst the report denied by the Indian Army that it had carried out drone attacks on the eastern headquarters of the banned insurgent group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) in Myanmar, the NSCN/GPRN (YA) has alleged that “Indian fascist forces carried out multiple drone strikes at two locations in Eastern Nagaland” on July 13, between 2:00 and 4:00 AM, targeting camps of the United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) and the NSCN/GPRN.

According to a press statement issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), the strikes occurred in the Hoyat and Pangsau areas.

The NSCN/GPRN confirmed the death of ULFA-I commander Lt Gen Nayan Asom in what it described as a “barbaric attack.” The group said it was “deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic death of our fellow ULFA-I Comrade Lt Gen Nayan Asom, a staunch Wesean revolutionary leader,” along with “other senior ULFA leaders who were killed.”

The statement described Lt Gen Nayan Asom as “among the most committed and finest revolutionary leaders the ULFA-I has ever produced,” adding that he “dedicated his entire life in pursuits of freedom for his people.” His “unwavering commitment and selfless sacrifice,” it said, “will remain a source of inspiration not only for the Asom people but also for all the oppressed Wesean nations.”

Calling the drone strike an “atrocity,” the NSCN/GPRN stated, “We extend our deepest condolences and solidarity to the ULFA-I and join them in their grief and loss on this tragic day.”

The statement further claimed that the Government of India (GOI) has, over the past few months, “intensified its brutalities on the NSCN/GPRN cadres as well, with killings and military assaults persisting unabated.”

The group warned: “If India thinks she can wage an unjust war through the power of her sophisticated weapons and technological advantage and maintain her hegemony over the WESEA region, she is greatly mistaken. It simply proves her weakness and imperialistic mentality and not her strength.”

Reaffirming its commitment to its cause, the NSCN/GPRN declared, “India’s ruthless campaign and savage tactics will never break the spirit of the NSCN/GPRN nor the ULFA-I. We remain resolute in our fight against India’s oppression to the last man standing. Our struggle is based on truth and justice.”

The group added, “Every drop of blood will continue to speak the truth and it will be a proof that brutal oppression and genocide still exist even in the 21st Century.”

The NSCN/GPRN further reiterated its resolve stating, “Even though the price is high, we will fight and resist for our history, land and dignity. The victory of the Wesean people is inevitable and justice will be served.”

The statement ended with the slogans: “Long Live Wesea. Long Live Freedom.”
