The NSCN/GPRN (YA) has expressed “deep grief and anguish” over the deaths of two of its cadres in what it claims was a “well-coordinated ambush by the Indian occupational forces” on April 27, 2025, in Pongchau, Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh.

According to a statement issued by the group’s Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), the ambush led to the deaths of Corporal Teya, Private Petoh, and a civilian identified as a road contractor. “The surprise attack… is by all standard a cold-blooded murder perpetrated by the combined forces of Indian Army and Assam Rifles,” the group stated.

The NSCN/GPRN has also alleged that three other Naga Army cadres sustained injuries during the incident. The outfit strongly criticized the official version of events shared by the Indian Army’s PRO, describing it as a “one-sided and fabricated report.”

“In order to glorify themselves and justify their side of story,” the group claimed, “the Indian security forces has crossed all human decency by cladding the dead civilian with Naga army fatigue and placing additional heavy weapons and explosives on the three mutilated bodies.” Calling the act “vile and unthinkable,” the group condemned.

Despite the loss, the NSCN/GPRN said it would not be “cowed by the brutality and cruelty of the Indian occupational forces.” The statement added: “We will respond to their aggression at the time and place of our choosing.”

Paying tribute to the fallen, the group stated, “Though surrounded from all sides and heavily out-numbered, our fearless Naga soldiers did not surrender and they died true heroes. They are brave beyond words.” The NSCN/GPRN further conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and said it “share[s] our sorrow and pain… and pray that the Almighty God comfort and strengthen them in this hour of sadness.”
