Mokokchung, 14 August (MTNews): In his 77th Naga Independence Day speech on 14 August 2023, Akato Chophi, President of NSCN-R (Akato), emphasized that as ‘warfare’ has been replaced to ‘political negotiations and diplomatic ties’, the responsibility now lies with the Government of India (GoI) to demonstrate its sincerity in resolving the Naga Political Issue.

Highlighting that the Nagas have clearly expressed their positions, he stated that the onus is on the GoI to forge a political solution that is both honorable and acceptable to all parties, or to opt for procrastination or ongoing conflict.

He said that recognizing the mutual understanding among the Nagas, GoI and some top Indian Military officials realized that a military approach against the Naga issue would be ‘futile exercise,’ necessitating a ‘Political resolution’. Akato emphasized that any solution lacking ‘National Principles and Traditional Values’ and without a pragmatic approach is destined to fail in generating positive outcomes.

Therefore, he cautioned against any ‘political blasphemy’ that lacks rationality and decried the application of the ‘carrot and stick politics’ and a ‘dog-eat-dog political design.’ He stressed the need to avoid such approaches at all costs.

In conclusion, Akato asserted that a political solution devoid of sincerity and honor cannot be considered a definitive resolution. Despite witnessing successive conflicts from both external and internal sources, he rallied his comrades-in-arms to maintain a state of high readiness, unwavering strength, and resilience. He called upon them to be fully prepared to confront any challenges that may arise, regardless of circumstances.
