A political consultative meeting of the Somdal national workers of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) was held on April 29, 2025, with the group’s Chief Political Negotiator and General Secretary-Ato Kilonser (Prime Minister), Th Muivah, at his official residence in Wungram Colony, Dimapur.

The meeting was described by the NSCN as “fruitful and rewarding,” and included a formal recognition of Muivah’s contributions and “colossal” sacrifices to the Nagalim national movement. According to the official statement released after the meeting, the national workers “recognized and acknowledged his commitment and sacrifices to the Nagalim national cause.”

The consultative body, comprised of Somdal national workers of the NSCN, passed a resolution outlining the historical and political foundations upon which it continues to support Muivah’s leadership and the sovereignty of Nagalim.

‘Defending Nagalim Sovereignty’

In its first resolution, the body concluded that Th. Muivah has “consolidated Nagalim Political Foundation in defending Nagalim unique history and Nagalim sovereignty,” citing a series of political developments:

· “The condemnation of the betrayed 1975 Shillong Accord and the subsequent formation of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) in 1980 is in defence of Nagalim unique history and Nagalim sovereignty,” the resolution stated.

· Referring to the Indo-Naga peace talks that began in 1997, the resolution added that the dialogue “recognized and acknowledged that Nagalim is not the internal matter of India [or Burma (Myanmar) as the case may be] and the political dialogue began with due recognition and acknowledgement of Nagalim sovereignty as the talks began at the Prime Minister level, without pre-condition and outside India in a third country.”

The statement also invoked the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué signed on July 11, 2002, claiming that the Government of India officially recognized Nagalim’s historical independence. “The GoI has officially recognized and acknowledged the unique history and situation of Nagalim admitting that Nagalim was/is never a part of India (or Burma),” the resolution read. “Therefore, the Amsterdam Joint communiqué of July 11, 2002 officially admits Nagalim sovereignty.”

In the same vein, the 2015 Framework Agreement was interpreted by the Somdal unit as confirming Nagalim’s distinct national identity. “The letter and spirit of the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 officially recognize and acknowledge the sovereign Nagalim national flag and the sovereign Nagalim national constitution,” the statement said.

The resolution paid tribute to the late Isak Chishi Swu and Muivah for signing the agreement “on the foundation of the recognition and acknowledgement of Nagalim unique history and Nagalim sovereignty.”

Continued endorsement of Muivah’s leadership

The Somdal national workers “deeply appreciate and are thankful” to Muivah “for having consolidated and defended the Nagalim and the Naga people’s mandate on Nagalim unique history and Nagalim sovereignty.”

Reaffirming their allegiance, the statement declared: “We shall carry forward Nagalim national struggle based on the national foundation and legacy laid down by the Chief Political Negotiator, Th Muivah, General Secretary-Ato kilonser, NSCN/GPRN to the last, come what may.”

The resolution was signed by the Convener and Secretary of the Somdal national workers “on behalf of all the Somdal national workers of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN), wherever they are.”
