The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, has issued a weather update for four days from August 27 to 30, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and rain across the state.

According to NSDMA, light to moderate rain will prevail in several parts of Nagaland till August 30. On the 30th, districts including Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Phek, Shamator, Tseminyu, Tuensang, and Wokha are expected to witness moderate intermittent rain.

The authority cautioned that high winds and lightning could disrupt communication and connectivity during this period. Due to the likelihood of heavy precipitation in hilly areas, the lowland and foothill districts—Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli—remain vulnerable to waterlogging and flash floods.

In view of the situation, residents in low-lying areas have been advised to take precautionary measures such as:
1. Keeping important documents and valuables in safe lockers.
2. Evacuating flood-prone areas if instructed by authorities.
3. Checking for gas leaks.
4. Avoiding food contaminated by flood water.
5. Refraining from entering or driving through floodwaters.
6. Placing electrical appliances above ground level.
7. Boiling drinking water or using chlorinated water.
8. Staying alert to open drains or flood channels.

The NSDMA urged the public to exercise caution to prevent any eventualities and directed all District Disaster Management Authorities and line departments to remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property during the ongoing monsoon season.

For emergencies, the public has been asked to contact the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) through the toll-free number 1070.
