Nagaland is expected to witness four days of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by localized thunderstorms and lightning from July 9 to 12, with the weather likely to intensify on Saturday when isolated heavy rainfall is forecast in Kiphire and Tseminyu districts, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) said.
According to the NSDMA, localized thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rainfall are expected over Kohima, Shamator, Mokokchung, Mon and Wokha districts on July 9, while light rainfall is likely at a few places in Longleng, Noklak, Phek, Tseminyu and Tuensang.
On July 10, scattered intermittent light to moderate rainfall is forecast over Shamator and Tuensang districts, with Mon also likely to receive light to moderate rain. Isolated light rainfall is expected in Kohima, Longleng, Noklak, Tseminyu and Zunheboto districts.
The authority said localized thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light rainfall are likely over Peren, Phek, Tseminyu, Wokha, Dimapur and Niuland on July 11. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected at a few places in Kohima, Longleng, Mon and Tuensang.
Weather activity is expected to become more widespread on July 12, with localized thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall likely over Kohima, Longleng, Meluri, Mokokchung, Mon, Phek, Shamator, Wokha and Zunheboto districts. Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in Kiphire and Tseminyu, while Dimapur and Tuensang are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall.
The NSDMA advised residents to remain alert and keep themselves updated with official weather forecasts and advisories during the period. The authority also urged the public to follow weather updates through the NSDMA Weather website and the SAFER Nagaland app for the latest information.
