The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), under the Home Department, has issued a four-day weather advisory for the state from September 30 to October 3, 2025.
According to the NSDMA, Nagaland is expected to experience localized thunderstorms and lightning with moderate rain at most places during this period. The districts of Kohima, Kiphire, Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Niuland, and Tuensang are likely to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on September 30. “As a result, it is vital to take necessary measures at this period, including avoiding lightning strikes and high winds, which can disrupt communication and connectivity,” the NSDMA cautioned.
It added that lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli, are vulnerable to waterlogging and flash floods due to heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to keep valuables in safe locations, evacuate low-lying areas if instructed, avoid entering floodwaters, disconnect electrical appliances, and use boiled or chlorinated water.
Hilly districts are also warned of potential landslides and are advised to stay alert during continuous rain, avoid the path of debris flows, and monitor streams for sudden rises in water levels or changes in water clarity.
The NSDMA has requested all District Disaster Management Authorities and line departments to remain on high alert to protect lives and property during the monsoon season. The public can contact the State Emergency Operation Centre at toll-free 1070, 112, or on 0370-2291120 and 0370-2291122 in case of emergencies.
Dr. Johnny Ruangmei, Joint Chief Executive Officer of NSDMA, reiterated the importance of caution during this period to minimize risks associated with heavy rainfall and related hazards.
