The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has warned of another spell of heavy rainfall across parts of the state from July 28 to 31, urging residents to remain vigilant as several districts continue to recover from recent floods and landslides.
According to the latest district-wise weather outlook issued by NSDMA, Mokokchung and Tseminyu are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall at most places on Tuesday (July 28). Moderate rainfall is also expected over parts of Longleng, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Peren, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto, accompanied by localized thunderstorms and lightning.
On Wednesday (July 29), weather activity is expected to intensify, with Kohima likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Mon, Noklak, Peren, Tseminyu and Zunheboto are also expected to receive rainfall at most places, while localized thunderstorms with light to moderate rain are forecast for the remaining districts.
For Thursday (July 30), NSDMA has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Tuensang, while most other districts are expected to receive localized thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall.
Weather conditions are expected to improve on Friday (July 31), although isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall may still occur over Meluri, Mokokchung, Phek, Peren, Tseminyu, Wokha and Zunheboto. No active weather warnings have been issued for Kiphire, Noklak and Shamator for the day.
In view of the forecast, NSDMA has advised residents, particularly those living in landslide-prone, flood-prone and low-lying areas, to remain alert and exercise caution. The authority also urged the public to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and to stay updated through official weather advisories.
The latest alert comes as Nagaland continues to deal with the aftermath of recent heavy rains, floods and landslides that caused widespread damage to infrastructure and disrupted connectivity in several districts.
