The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across all districts of Nagaland over the next several days, with the wet spell expected to continue until June 5, 2025.
According to the NSDMA, light to moderate rainfall is likely at most places on May 29, with heavy to very heavy rain expected in isolated pockets over Kohima, Kiphire, Tuensang, Phek and Mon districts. Squally winds reaching 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are also likely to prevail over several districts.
From May 29 to May 31, all districts are expected to witness heavy rainfall. The advisory further notes that Kohima, Phek and Tseminyu districts are likely to experience exceptionally heavy rain between June 2 and June 5, while other districts may witness extremely heavy rain during June 1 to June 5.
In view of these developments, the NSDMA has cautioned the public to take all necessary precautions against lightning strikes, strong winds, and disruptions to communication and connectivity. It also warned of possible inundation, water logging and flash floods in lowland and foothill areas, including Dimapur, Nuiland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli.
The NSDMA has requested all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and relevant departments to remain on high alert to ensure the safety of lives and property during the monsoon period.
