To address the growing threat of illegal immigration, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has decided to form the Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC). This resolution was passed during the 4th NSF Federal Assembly held on December 4, 2024. The NSF’s decision is a response to the increasing inflow of illegal immigrants, which they believe poses a severe risk to the Naga identity, culture, and territorial rights.
To lead this important initiative, the NSF has appointed Senchumo NSN Lotha as the Chairman of the ILRC, with the following members: Kelhouniezo Yhome; Hukavi Tokheho Yepthomi; Imtiakum; and Seve R Vadeo.
The ILRC will be tasked with reviewing and strengthening existing regulations, monitoring the situation, and proposing legal and administrative reforms to enhance the protective barriers against illegal settlements. The commission will work closely with stakeholders and civil organizations to build a robust defense against the growing influx of illegal immigrants.
In their statement, the NSF emphasized that the unchecked influx of illegal immigrants has reached a critical point, threatening the demographic balance, cultural heritage, and security of the Naga people. “This silent invasion has far-reaching consequences; economic exploitation, land alienation, and political subversion that will irreversibly alter the future of our people if left unchecked,” the NSF warned.
The NSF pointed out that the Inner Line Pass (ILP), enacted more than 150 years ago, was designed to protect and preserve indigenous communities. However, due to years of political neglect and administrative failures, illegal immigrants have exploited loopholes, settled unlawfully, and infiltrated the region. This has placed the Naga people at risk of demographic subjugation.
In light of these concerns, the NSF has called on all Nagas to unite in this critical fight for their survival. “Let us unite to resist this existential threat before it is too late,” the NSF urged, rallying the community behind the cause.
