The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has issued a firm directive to all its federating units and subordinate bodies to refrain from participating in the April 21 demonstration being organized in support of the regularization of 147 Assistant Professors and Librarians under the Department of Higher Education.

In a notification dated April 19, the NSF reiterated its “categorical and repeated opposition” to what it called an arbitrary regularization drive, describing the government’s move as a violation of transparency, fairness, and meritocracy. The Federation emphasized that the one-time absorption of faculty members without open recruitment through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) is a “gross miscarriage of justice.”

“Participation in the demonstration would constitute a clear violation of the stand and principles of the Naga Students’ Federation and will be viewed with utmost seriousness,” the statement warned.

The April 21 demonstration was called through a circular issued by the Principal of Kohima Science College, asking faculty and students of all government colleges to take part in a show of solidarity with the regularized appointees. The move has since drawn sharp criticism from several student bodies and civil society organizations across the state.

NSF has demanded the immediate revocation of the Cabinet decision and called for all sanctioned posts to be requisitioned to the NPSC. “Only a fair, transparent, and merit-based recruitment process can restore public confidence in the system and uphold the aspirations of the youth,” it stated.

The Federation also instructed its units to remain vigilant and act in the collective interest of the student community.
