Kohima, September 13 (MTNews): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has urged the State government to conduct the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) examination based on meritocracy, fairness and transparency. Addressing a press conference in Kohima today, NSF President, Kegwayhun Tep said the reality of NSSB is a long overdue desire of the students’ community, particularly the aspirants.

While appreciating the efforts of the government for implementing the NSSB, Tep said there should not be any room for loopholes in the processes of examination. He said, with regard to the recent advertisement under NSSB, the student community feels apprehensive with the outcome of the advertisement where 12.5 percent of the marks in any category is allocated for viva-voice, or interview. Tep said this will create room for manipulation in the process of examination.

In this regard, he said the NSF, who represent the aspiration of the students’ community, object to this. Tep disclosed that the NSF has written an objection letter to the Chief Secretary to either scrap the interview system or to minimize the marks allotted to the viva-voice.

Tep stated that NSF wants to ensure that all the available vacancies are sent to the Board so that all vacant posts in the different government departments can be recruited under the Board. In this regard, he said, the NSF filed an RTI in all the departments to send all available vacancies. However, Tep informed that the total number of available vacancies in the RTI and the vacancies sent to the Board did not tally. The NSF claimed that there were disparities in almost all the departments and asked the departments to cooperate with the student body for the interest of the students’ community and send all the vacancies which come under the purview of NSSB so that examinations can be conducted by the Board in a free and fair manner.

The NSF further claimed that there are still some major departments which are yet to send the number of vacancies to the Board and urged the concerned departments to speed up the process so that the Board can conduct the first phase of examination at the earliest.
