Kohima, 4 August (MTNews): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) expressed its firm stance that it cannot take any decision until the legitimacy of the Naga Club is unanimously agreed upon by all Nagas, irrespective of artificial borders. The NSF in a press statement on Friday emphasized that if the Naga Club is to let live, it must be firmly rooted in the principles of the original memorandum submitted to the Simon Commission. The NSF made it clear that compromising on this aspect would be a mockery to the uniqueness of Naga history, something they are not prepared to do.

The NSF also expressed its gratitude towards the Kohima Village Council (KVC) and the Angami Public Organization (APO) for their efforts to resolve the recent imbroglio surrounding the vandalized Naga Club Building. It also reposed its faith on the Angami Public Organization and the Kohima Village Council that it will not allow some individuals with vested interest to extirpate the history of Naga Nationalism, as dearly upheld, till the last breath, by the Father of Naga Nation, A Z Phizo.

According to the NSF, in a letter dated 28th June 2023, the NSF received reassurances of support from the office of the APO and KVC, paving the way for a peaceful resolution to the issue. The NSF had previously appealed for rational dialogue and efforts to address the situation that arose when some unidentified miscreants vandalized the Naga Club Building on the fateful morning of 27th May 2023. Subsequently, the building was claimed by members of the present Naga Club.

In the statement, the NSF clarified that the present imbroglio over the Naga Club Building is not about the ownership of land and its building.

“For the NSF, the Naga Club and its building is not a mere standing infrastructure to be looked upon from its material perspective. The Naga Club building is a monument of Naga Nationalism and this spirit will always remain and the same will be passed on to posterity. The pioneers and their wisdom shall continue to shine in the lives of the Nagas who yearn to safeguard the uniqueness of Naga history and its struggle for independence. Solemnly, it is the bedrock of the Nagas’ struggle for Self Determination,” it stated.

The NSF expressed concern that certain individuals appear to view the building as a structure for personal convenience, disregarding its historical significance. They emphasized that the construction of a modernized building, devoid of the historic principles enshrined in the original memorandum submitted to the Simon Commission in 1929, would disrespect the sacrifices made by the Nagas in their quest for freedom.
