The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), through its Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC), has issued a reminder to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland seeking an update on the action taken following a meeting held on April 4, during which a ten-point memorandum was submitted to the government.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the ILRC recalled the meeting and reaffirmed the urgency of enforcing the Inner Line Regulation (ILR) in Nagaland. “The memorandum is explicit and addresses issues of the highest importance concerning the stringent enforcement of the Inner Line Regulation (ILR) in Nagaland,” the letter stated.
Clarifying its stance, the NSF wrote, “The NSF does not intend to confront the government, as we believe the present dispensation is wise enough to read the ‘Writing on the Wall’ — the consequences of lackadaisical implementation of the ILR in Nagaland.”
Expressing deep concern for the socio-economic future of the Naga people, the ILRC stated that the Federation “is of the considered opinion that stringent enforcement of the Inner Line Pass system is essential to the socio-economic security of the Nagas.” It added, “To this end, the NSF is committed to enduring any hardship to achieve this security, especially for upcoming generations of Nagas.”
While assuring the state government of its support, the NSF also made its position clear: “The NSF conveys its readiness to extend full cooperation to the government if called upon. Simultaneously, let it be known that the NSF is resolutely committed to ensuring the full implementation of the ILR provisions in Nagaland and will take all necessary measures to achieve this objective.”
The Federation concluded its letter with a firm but polite appeal: “Therefore, the NSF appeals to your kind authority to provide an update on the action taken regarding the memorandum at your earliest convenience.”
The letter was signed by Senchumo NSN Lotha, Chairman of ILRC; Mteisuding, Vice President of NSF; and Seve R. Vadeo, Member Secretary.
