Kohima, August 17 (MTNews): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Wednesday organized a sit-in protest at its office premises, Naga Club Building, Kohima under the aegis of North East Students’ Organization (NESO). The sit-in protest was held in all the state capitals of the Northeast region demanding the repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Inner Line Permit in the entire Northeast, repeal of the draconian AFSPA and a number of other demands.

The charter of demands of NESO also includes an update of the NRC as per the 1951 census, and the implementation of the Assam Accord immediately.

 

NESO also demands the adoption of an educational policy for the Northeast based on the culture and history of the region, as well as establishing more universities, technical and vocational institutes, medical and engineering colleges, research centres and introduction of more courses to the colleges and universities in the region.
Another demand of NESO is to solve the interstate boundary as well as International border issues immediately.

 

Another demand of NESO is to formulate a comprehensive policy for economic development of the NE region and to solve the unemployment problem immediately. NESO is also demanding an administrative centre of Act East Policy which must be established in the NE region itself and to declare the NE special employment zone with the entire grade III & IV of central offices reserved for NE people cent percent.

 

NESO’s demand also includes a separate time zone for the NE region. On the refugee problem, NESO demands that the government should solve the refugee issue of Chakma and Hajong of Arunachal Pradesh and immediately. NESO also demands the Government of India to look into the issue of people from Myanmar crossing over to NE to escape persecution like provision of food and shelter and other welfare amenities till the situation improves so that they can return back.

 

NESO also demands “special constitutional status” for NE people with rights over land and natural resources.
