Barak FC sealed their status as league champions of the inaugural Nagaland Super League (NSL) 2025 with a 3-0 victory over 27 United FC on Thursday at Chümoukedima. Despite securing the top spot with two matches remaining, their quest for the trophy is not over as they must now navigate the playoff format to claim the official championship title.
Interestingly, there is no cash award or trophy for the league leaders but awaits their fate in the knockout round. They will have to be contented with the prize money decided by the playoff matches if they can’t win the knockout matches.
Toka Achumi is the team’s leading scorer just one behind United SC’s Nisede Peseyie in the race for the Golden Boot. The team’s well-organized defence have concided only 7 goals and kept five clean sheet in ten matches. Barak FC now sits at 26 points from 10 matches, well ahead of second-placed United SC (20 points from 11 matches). The team scored 24 goals scored, 7 conceded, and 5 clean sheets.
Despite their dominance in the league stage, Barak FC cannot lift the trophy just yet. The NSL 2025 format requires the league winner to also triumph in the playoffs to be officially crowned champions.
Barak FC now shifts focus to the high-stakes playoffs in the knockout round, where they must win to officially claim the Nagaland Super League 2025 championship trophy.
