The inaugural season of the Nagaland Super League (NSL) witnessed a thrilling Playoff 1 clash as Longterok FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over 27 United FC at the Chümoukedima Football Stadium on Monday night.

The match began with high intensity, with 27 United FC dominating possession and creating several early chances. Their relentless pressure nearly paid off in the 34th minute when Ngansang’s shot struck the woodwork. However, the deadlock was broken in the 39th minute when Manton converted a penalty to put Longterok FC ahead. Their lead was short-lived as Jangjagin equalized from the spot in the 44th minute, sending the teams into halftime level at 1-1.
The second half saw Longterok FC play with more composure, while 27 United FC continued to push forward. In the 53rd minute, Manton struck again, scoring what would prove to be the match-winning goal. Despite a late surge from 27 United FC, including a close-range attempt by Jangjakin Kuki in the 82nd minute, Longterok’s disciplined defense held firm.
Goalkeeper I Kumzuk was instrumental in Longterok FC’s victory, making crucial saves throughout the match. His composure and shot-stopping ability earned him the Player of the Match award.
With this win, Longterok FC advances to the semifinals, where they will face the loser of the second playoff between league toppers Barak FC and Nagaland United FC. Meanwhile, 27 United FC has been eliminated from the competition and will have to wait for another chance next season.
Nagaland Minister of Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir, was the special guest of the match, while Hekani Jakhalu, Advisor for Industries and Commerce, was the honored guest. Advisor for the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, S. Keoshu Yimkhiung, and Nagaland MLA Benei M. Lamthiu, who is also the chairman of the NSL and general secretary of the Nagaland Football Associ ation, were the hosts of the event.
The second playoff between Barak FC and Nagaland United FC will be played at the Chümoukedima Football Stadium on March 25.
