The Department of Commerce, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema, successfully organized a two-day ICSSR-sponsored National Seminar on the theme “Viksit Bharat@2047 – A Journey from 1947 to 2047” during 18–19 November 2025. The event brought together distinguished academicians, researchers, and students from across the country to deliberate on India’s economic, financial, and social transformation in the run-up to 2047.
The inaugural ceremony began with an invocation by Asu Chuzho, followed by the University Anthem. Prof. Joy Das, Head of the Department of Commerce and Seminar Convenor, delivered the welcome address and introduced the seminar’s theme and objectives.
Guests of Honour included Prof. N. Venuh, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Kohima Campus, Nagaland University, and Prof. Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai, Assam. The Chief Guest, Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, addressed the gathering and emphasized the significance of inclusive growth and knowledge-driven development for a Viksit Bharat.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Madhusudan Karmakar from IIM Lucknow, who highlighted India’s financial vision for 2047, with particular emphasis on the role of sustainable finance. The inaugural session also featured special recognitions for the contributions of T. Vihienuo and Prof. A.K. Mishra for their dedicated service to the university.
A plenary session on “Transparency and Transformation: Strengthening India’s Financial and Economic Vision for Viksit Bharat 2047″ followed, featuring insightful presentations by Prof. Madhumita Chakraborty (IIM Lucknow) and Prof. Karamala Padmasree (Central University of Karnataka).
Across the two days, the seminar featured five technical tracks—Human Resource Management, Marketing, Accounting & Finance, Corporate Governance & CSR, and Entrepreneurship & Tourism. More than 60 researchers presented papers on emerging themes including AI and labour dynamics, digital financial inclusion, ESG disclosures, green banking, MSME development, women’s empowerment, and sustainable tourism. Participants represented institutions from Karnataka, West Bengal, and various Northeastern states. All sessions were chaired by eminent scholars from leading universities across India.
The seminar concluded on 19 November with a valedictory ceremony. Prof. Joy Das delivered the welcome address, followed by the Valedictory Address by Prof. Gautam Patikar of Nagaland University. Prof. Buno Liegise, Department of Education, graced the programme as Guest of Honour, while Prof. N. Venuh addressed the gathering as Chief Guest. As Convenor, Prof. Joy Das presented the key insights and takeaways from the two-day event.
Participants shared their feedback, after which certificates were distributed. Dr. Shashikant DH proposed the vote of thanks, formally bringing the seminar to a close. The seminar served as a vibrant platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, research dissemination, and academic collaboration, contributing meaningfully to India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
