The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Nagaland University, Lumami, officially launched the second edition of its departmental newsletter, MassCom Chronicle, on May 6, 2025.
The event was graced by Habemo Ngullie, PEX/HOP at Akashvani Mokokchung, who launched the newsletter alongside faculty and guests. Speaking at the launch, Ngullie commended the newsletter as a vital voice for the community, noting, “Newsletters like this are more than just collections of words on paper. They are voices of a community—in this case, the dynamic, thoughtful, and ever-curious voices of the journalism and mass communication students of Nagaland University.”
Ngullie emphasized the importance of responsible communication in today’s media landscape, particularly in combating misinformation. “The role of trained communicators and ethical journalists is more important than ever,” he stated, adding that the newsletter reflects the students’ commitment to truth, creativity, and professionalism.
Prof Athungo Ovung, HoD of the Department of Sociology, expressed admiration for the department’s efforts, calling the newsletter a testament to the academic vibrancy at Nagaland University. “It reflects the dedication, determination, and intellectual participation of both students and teachers,” he said, highlighting how such initiatives help develop essential skills in writing, editing, design, and teamwork.
Peter Ki, Public Relations Officer (PRO) at Nagaland University, spoke about the challenges of fake news in the digital age, stressing the importance of ethical journalism and responsible news dissemination. He encouraged students to continue developing their skills with the same passion.
The editor and sub-editor of MassCom Chronicle, Tiakumla and Idaizeule, shared how the project strengthened their editorial and teamwork skills. They thanked their mentors and emphasized the newsletter’s role in reflecting both academic and campus life, expressing hope for its continued growth as a platform for student voices.
Senior Professor Mithilesh Kumar Sinha also spoke during the event appreciating the students’ initiative and encouraging them to pursue journalistic excellence.

The event was chaired by Petekhrienuo Kulnu, Research Scholar, with the welcome address delivered by Dr Arjun Das, Assistant Professor of the department. Ayimba Jamir, Research Scholar, concluded the program with a vote of thanks.
