NU KVK conducts workshop on natural farming

Nagaland University KVK, Lumami, conducted a workshop on ‘Natural Farming and Input Distribution’ at Yesholutomi Village on 15 May. Edenly Chishi, CTO (Horticulture), chaired the introductory session, and Naropongla, TO (Farm), NU, KVK, briefed the participants about the workshop on natural farming.

In the technical session, Dr Visakho Shunyu, CTO (Agronomy), NU, KVK, delivered a talk on the importance of natural farming and seed production. He emphasized that natural farming improves soil fertility, environmental health, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions, promising enhanced farmer income. Adequate care should be given to crops from which seeds are to be produced for the next sowing season, as only seeds of assured quality can be expected to give a good yield.

Edenly Chishi, CTO (Horticulture), NU, KVK, presented techniques for selecting suitable varieties and cropping sequences. She emphasized year-round crop production by adopting different cropping systems and elucidated the importance of integrated farming systems.

Narola Anichari, TO (Home Science), NU, KVK, presented on nutritional security through fruits and vegetables. She explained the importance of including fruits and vegetables in one’s daily diet and their health benefits.
Naropongla, TO (Farm), NU, KVK, demonstrated the preparation of different natural farming products such as Neemastra, Chanajeevamrut, Beejamrut, and Jeevamrut.

The technical program was followed by a farmer-scientist interaction and input distribution, including vegetable seeds, knapsack sprayers, Neemastra, Ghana Jeevamrit, Beejamrut, etc. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Kitoho Chishi (GB) of Yesholutomi village. A total of 85 farmers from Yesholutomi and Imlomi villages attended the program.
