NU KVK holds sustainable development program for women SHGs

A program on the sustainable development of women SHGs was conducted by Nagaland University, KVK, Lumami. According to a report from Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist & Head of KVK, Nagaland University, sustainable poultry farming is gaining momentum in the Akuluto area of Zunheboto district.


The program, sponsored by NABARD, Dimapur, titled “Promoting Sustainable Livelihood and Nutritional Security of Women SHGs through Low-Cost Egg Incubators and Backyard Poultry Production,” is underway in Zunheboto district of Nagaland under the Farm Sector Promotion Fund.

A total of 4,000 chicks have already been distributed to three villages, and another 2,000 chicks, along with feed, feeders, and drinkers, were distributed on September 24, 2024, to Lumami and Zaphumi women SHGs by Prof JK Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, at the KVK office in Lumami.

Prof JK Patnaik emphasized that his vision as Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University extends beyond academic development to include the development of villages and local communities. He informed the gathering that Nagaland has significant potential for development in the agriculture and allied sectors and can compete not only with other Northeastern states but also with mainland states. He stressed the importance of empowering women SHGs, which play a pivotal role in the development of any society and the economy of the state. He believes that the program sponsored by NABARD for sustainable livelihoods for women SHGs will help them develop socially and economically.
