SKM Guite, Deputy Adviser (Forestry); Abid Hussain, Research Investigator from the Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development, New Delhi; and Vargish Bamola, an expert from Himmotthan Society, Dehradun, visited Nagaland to monitor the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana-Watershed Development Component (PMKSY-WDC 2.0) projects and the springs rejuvenation works.

The team, accompanied by officials from the State’s Department of Land Resources, visited project locations in Kohima and Peren districts from August 22 to 23, 2024.

The visiting officials, along with the officials of the SLNA Nagaland and the Department, inspected the Springshed management work at Thizama village, which was implemented under PMKSY-WDC 1.0.

Neizelie Zatsu, Head GB of Thizama village, thanked the Ministry and the Department of Land Resources for extending drinking water to around 200 households through the springs rejuvenation works at Thizama.

The Department informed that the pipelines and water storage tanks were provided under the JJM Scheme by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHD) of Nagaland.

The officials also visited percolation tanks, bench terraces, banana plantations, and coffee plantations at Zhadima, as well as the coffee processing plant of Naga Tribal Coffee at Tsiesema on August 22.

Thanking the team for visiting his farm, Vizosielie Khoubve of BigLife Farm, Zhadima, expressed optimism that the Water Harvesting Structure project at Zhadima would help strengthen agricultural activities and boost the rural economy.

Ministry officials also visited Gaili Namdi village and Inbung village in Peren district on August 23 to monitor the implementation of springs rejuvenation works and natural resource management works under the project.

Guite expressed appreciation for the community participation in the watershed project implementation and noted the economic benefits and employment opportunities generated through the programme. He hinted that more projects would be covered under PMKSY-WDC 3.0.
