The Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) has extended “complete solidarity and unwavering support” to the Chungtia Students’ Union (CSU) over what it described as “legitimate concerns regarding the prolonged delay and questionable quality of construction work for the 50 bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospital at Sabangya, Mokokchung District.”
In a statement issued by OKM president Tongpangmangyang Kichu and general secretary Sungkumjang Kichu, the organisation said it “commends the CSU for their diligent monitoring of this crucial public health infrastructure project and for bringing to light the serious irregularities in its execution.”
The OKM noted that despite a sanctioned amount of Rs 442.91 lakhs and work orders issued over six years ago, “the construction has progressed only to 65% with observable deficiencies in workmanship that raise serious questions about structural integrity and potential risks to public safety.”

“As a responsible organization committed to the welfare of our community, we fully endorse the CSU’s demand for immediate suspension of all construction activities until proper quality assessments are conducted,” the OKM said. It further supported the call for a joint technical inspection “involving departmental technical personnel and comprehensive structural integrity tests including Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity, Rebound Hammer, and Core Cut Sampling within the stipulated 10-day timeframe.”
“The people of Mokokchung District deserve a healthcare facility that meets the highest standards of safety and quality. We cannot and will not accept substandard construction that could endanger lives and waste public funds,” the OKM asserted.

The organisation also called upon the concerned authorities “to respond promptly to the CSU’s reasonable demands, ensure complete transparency in the inspection process, take immediate corrective measures if deficiencies are confirmed, and hold accountable those responsible for the delays and quality lapses.”
Concluding, the OKM said it “stands firmly with the Chungtia Student’s Union in this matter and will continue to monitor the situation closely,” while urging all stakeholders “to prioritize public interest and ensure that this vital healthcare infrastructure project is completed to the highest standards without further delay.”
