“Old School Nagaland” is a five-member band: Moa Imchen is the vocalist, Wonchi plays keyboard, Lichen Kichu is on lead guitar, Toshi Pongen is the bassist, and Tovi is on drums.

Formed in 2024, the band has performed a few gigs so far, covering songs from 1980s and 1990s rock bands like Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden, and Mr. Big. They launched their first original song on May 31, 2025. “This is just the beginning of our musical journey,” the band says.
Their genre is rock, heavily inspired by the 1980s and 1990s style. “Rock music resonates with us on a personal level, enabling us to connect with audiences through both intellectual and emotional realms. At the same time, we focus on improving and creating unique musical experiences.”
Their songwriting process is organic. Sometimes a melody comes first, other times it’s a lyric or chord progression. “Simply put, the creative process of songwriting begins with a spark—whether emotional or intellectual—such as a beautiful landscape or complex emotions. The process involves trial and error as we search for the perfect blend of elements to convey our original inspiration.”
Besides their debut single, the band has a couple of original songs lined up for release soon. Moa Imchen writes the lyrics and melodies, while Lichen Kichu handles the harmony. “We always take a collaborative approach, throwing in our best efforts until we achieve a pleasing result,” the band explains. They believe the best songs come from working together and bouncing ideas off one another.
Acknowledging the challenges of producing music independently as newcomers, the band says, “We’ve been working on our music with limited resources and time constraints, without sponsors or collaborators. However, we’re truly content and grateful to release our music with the encouragement and support of relatives and friends.”
“Do keep supporting us. Your energy fuels our music! Thank you all! Love & Peace! Rock ‘n’ Roll,” the band signs off.
