A one-day block-level sensitization and training programme for School Management Committees (SMCs) and School Management and Development Committees (SMDCs) was held across the districts of Phek, Zunheboto, and Kohima.

This convergence programme, jointly organized by the Directorate of School Education (DoSE), Samagra Shiksha, and the NECTAR Project, aims to strengthen SMCs and SMDCs by enhancing their understanding of their roles, responsibilities, and various initiatives under the Department of School Education. The programme commenced on March 17 and will continue across all 46 blocks in Nagaland until March 28, 2025.

The training for EBRC L Khel, Kohima, was held at the Directorate of School Education (DoSE), Kohima, and was chaired by Vizoneilie Pienyu, Coordinator, EBRC, L Khel. The keynote address was delivered by Ruokuoneinuo, Assistant District Coordinator, District Mission Authority, Samagra Shiksha.

This was followed by a presentation on the achievements and activities of the Department by Lebu Krose, Joint Director, DoSE. Some of the key initiatives highlighted included the PM Poshan Mid-Day Meal, free distribution of school textbooks, annual science activities, the teacher’s award (district, state, and national levels), scholarships for government school students (Classes 5 to 12), the Chief Minister’s Meritorious Scholarship, the Governor’s Scholarship, the free deworming drive, and the distribution of iron and folic acid supplements in schools.

Kelhikha Kenye, Deputy Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, introduced the objectives and initiatives of Samagra Shiksha, emphasizing the need to strengthen school enrolment. He also provided an overview of the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR), highlighting its benefits in securing and streamlining students’ educational records. Currently, only 26% of students in the state are registered under APAAR. The session also covered key topics such as NIPUN Bharat, the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) curriculum, Kala Utsav, inclusive education, and vocational education.

Visato Koso, Project Coordinator, EBRC, NECTAR, spoke about the inception of the NECTAR Project and its key initiatives, including the establishment of one Lighthouse School Complex in each of the state’s 16 districts, the SMILE App, and the Performance Incentive Grants (PIG), which has actively engaged communities and benefited 99% (1,914) of government schools in Nagaland. He also discussed the Exam Reforms initiative being implemented in collaboration with NBSE, as well as various governance and capacity-building training sessions conducted in partnership with DoSE and SCERT.

The programme concluded with a session conducted by P3 Consortium under the NECTAR Project, focusing on the roles and responsibilities of SMCs/SMDCs. Participants also completed a self-reflection report card to assess their performance and responsibilities within their respective institutions.
