The National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Peren, in collaboration with DEF, Peren, and DMHP, Peren, organised a one-day seminar on “The Ill Effects of Tobacco Consumption and COTPA 2003” on 29th September 2025.
Igwangheing Hemang, NPS, Superintendent of Police, Peren, in his short speech encouraged participants to avail of the services and seek early treatment for any issues related to tobacco use and mental health.
Neilasenuo, Clinical Psychologist, spoke on mental health, emphasising that it is as important as physical health. She also highlighted the services provided at the OPD, including TELE-MANAS.
Dr. Ao Yanger, DNO, NTCP, Peren, addressing the seminar topic, explained how the younger generation is increasingly affected by smokeless chewing tobacco (SLT), which has become a social norm. He noted that oral cancer detection is rising not only among older adults but also in younger adults, emphasizing that overconsumption of tobacco contributes significantly to oral cancer. He motivated participants to avail themselves of services and seek early treatment.
Neivinuo, Psychologist, NTCP, briefed participants on district-level activities. Hoinichin, Social Worker, NTCP, chaired the programme. Dr. Hiazuheing Ndang, Pastor, Police Baptist Church, Peren, delivered the opening prayer.
The programme concluded with a pledge on “SAY NO TO TOBACCO.”
