Mokokchung, September 23 (MTNews): An Open Futsal Tournament organized by the Amigos Club under the aegis of Oja Süngo Lemtu Sü-It Tea Factory Chuchuyimpang, Mokokchung is currently underway with 24 teams participating under the theme “Peace and Unity through sports,” at FAC Ground.
During a brief exhortation, guest speaker Aso Imsong remarked that the platform provided a chance to develop emerging talents. He went on to say that today’s young generation is highly intellectual; however, laziness and excessive use of cellular devices have held them behind in terms of excelling in sports and academics.
He went on to highlight the origins of Futsal, citing Telongjem FC from Mokokchung as an example of a team that went on to compete in the Hero Futsal Club Championship in Delhi, while also stating that the tournament was a grassroot initiative to promote the sport and ensure talent gets exposure and experience.
Imsong, speaking on the topic “Peace and Unity through Sports,” stated that athletes have the ability to unite and create peace via sports and games. Furthermore, in order to convey peace and unity to others, one must first have peaceful harmony within oneself, he said.
The two day tournament is being participated by 24 teams from Mokokchung District aswell as two teams from Tuensang District.
Earlier, a dedicatory prayer for the players was delivered by Tensasanger Supong while a welcome speech was presented by Odibendang.
