To maintain momentum on a contentious issue and exert pressure on the government before the no-confidence motion discussion in the Lok Sabha, a delegation comprising senior leaders from the Opposition INDIA alliance is set to travel to Manipur tomorrow.
The decision to send the delegation to Manipur came amidst a minor discord within the alliance over the Congress party’s hasty submission of the no-confidence notice in the Lok Sabha without seeking the signatures of MPs from other parties. Several alliance members expressed their displeasure to the Congress, prompting Mallikarjun Kharge, the party chief and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, to admit the mistake and acknowledge that it could have been avoided.
The delegation of 16 senior leaders from different parties will travel to Manipur. Among those participating in the delegation are Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, Gaurav Gogoi, and Phulo Devi Netam from the Congress; Lalan Singh and Anil Hegde from JDU; Sushmita Dev from TMC; Kanimozhi from the DMK; Santhosh Kumar from CPI; AA Rahim from CPI(M); Manoj Jha from RJD; Javed Ali Khan from Samajwadi Party; Mahua Maji from JMM; Mohd Faizal from the NCP; Mohd Bashir from IUML; NK Premachandran from RSP; Sushil Gupta from AAP; Arvind Sawant from Shiv Sena (UBT); Ravi Kumar and Thirumavalavan from VCK; and Jayant Chaudhary from RLD.
