Mokokchung, 26 November (MTNews): In a scathing critique, former Nagaland minister K Therie has strongly condemned the “BJP Alliance Government,” accusing it of intentionally omitting the words ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’ from its directive to observe Constitution Day. Therie contends that the exclusion of these foundational principles, which serve to safeguard the rights of minorities, including Christians, Muslims, and others, represents a surrender of the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution.
Expressing dismay over what he perceives as a deliberate move by the BJP Government in favor of Hindutva, Therie lamented the state of affairs in Nagaland, asserting that “Our representatives are no more than cowards in defending our existence.”
“The ruling political parties are not ignorant. They have no excuse to tell the people that they were not aware of the removal of the two words from the Constitution. They knew it but have deliberately observed Constitution Day without the two words while making no protest to safeguard the people,” stated Therie.
Therie further claimed that this omission signifies an implicit approval of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He unequivocally condemned the actions of the state government, emphasizing his strong disapproval of the removal of the words ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’ from the Preamble to the Constitution of India.
“Given opportunity Congress will restore,” he added.
