Nagaland has seen over 13,000 of its youth benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in the last five financial years (2020–21 to 2024–25), according to data released by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The flagship scheme, which has been implemented nationwide since 2015, aims to provide skill development training through Short-Term Training (STT) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for up-skilling and re-skilling.

Nationally, over 62.84 lakh candidates have been trained under PMKVY during the same period.

While earlier versions of the scheme (PMKVY 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0) tracked placements under the Short Term Training (STT) component and recorded a placement rate of 43%, the ongoing PMKVY 4.0 has shifted its focus to empowering candidates to make informed career choices. It also includes orientation sessions to help youth explore varied employment pathways.

Independent third-party evaluations have found that PMKVY-trained individuals earn significantly more than their non-trained counterparts. A study by Sambodhi Research showed a 15% higher monthly income for STT-certified candidates, and a 19% increase for those certified under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Meanwhile, a NITI Aayog study revealed that 94% of surveyed employers were willing to hire more PMKVY-trained candidates.

To further integrate training with employment opportunities, the MSDE has launched the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), a one-stop platform connecting training, education, job listings, and entrepreneurship support. The platform also hosts Rozgar Melas to link job seekers with potential employers.

This information was given by the Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Jayant Chaudhary in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
