The Pathso Range Students’ Union (PRSU) has expressed profound gratitude to the Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) for its commitment to promoting linguistic diversity within the Khiamniungan community.
In a press release, PRSU on Monday commended KTC’s wisdom and foresightedness in giving equal importance to all Khiamniungan languages and dialects for the research and development of literature and school textbooks.
The PRSU highlighted two key decisions by the KTC as significant milestones. Firstly, the office order issued on June 30, 2023, granted Khiamniungan Literature Board (KLB) members equal rights to work on activities in their respective languages and dialects for inclusion in Khiamniungan literature and school textbooks. Secondly, the decision was made during the KTC Executive Session on March 22, 2024, which acknowledged and recommended all diverse Khiamniungan languages for research, development, and inclusion in the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE).
“This will go a long way towards the collective well-being and harmony within the community. The resolute effort of KTC in dispelling the air of confusion on the existence of diverse Khiamniungan languages is truly laudable for fostering an environment of mutual understanding,” the PRSU stated in its statement.
