Mokokchung, 2 October (MTNews): Concerned citizens, community leaders, and organizations in Pathso Village came together on Monday to rally against the menacing grip of drug abuse in the community. The rally was held at Shiemong, Pathso Village, as a joint collaboration between the Pathso Students’ Union, Pathso Mienyu Hoikam, and Pathso Public Organization. This event marked a crucial step in the fight against drug abuse, with the collective message that it is time to take action and address the pressing issue of drug abuse that continues to inflict harm on society.
Speaking at the event, Echungbemo Erui, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of Panso, stressed that drug abuse and alcoholism are the society’s biggest issues that need to be addressed before they become incurable and uncontrollable cancers. He mentioned that they not only affect the users but also the entire society, calling for collective efforts to fight against them. While applauding the village leaders for taking the right approach for eradication, he suggested more awareness campaigns. The district administration assured their unwavering moral support, as stated by P Zuhing, President of the Pathso Students’ Union in a press release.
Expressing concerns and advice, short messages were delivered by various leaders, including the Village Council Chairman, Head Goanbura, Presidents of Pathso Mienyu Hoikam (PMH), Pathso Public Organization (PPO), and Pathso Range Public Organization (PRPO).
The program was chaired by Heno, General Secretary of PSU, with an invocation pronounced by Women Pastor Shongmau, a benediction by Pastor Mukom, and a special song presented by Chellio, the Choirmaster. The program began with a procession in the village and concluded with the adoption of resolutions.
