Peren, 15 July (MTNews): The District Hospital Peren successfully concluded a five-day free Cataract Operation Camp on July 14, 2023, with no reported complications. The camp, organized by the District Health Society, Peren, in collaboration with the National Program for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment Nagaland, provided treatment for various eye diseases to a total of 271 registered patients.

During the camp, a total of 44 surgeries were performed, including 42 cataract operations, one excision of Basal cell Carcinoma, and one severe Pterygium removal, which was causing blindness. The surgeries were carried out by a team of experienced medical professionals led by Dr Phyantsuthung, a Consultant in Ophthalmology from District Hospital Tuensang, who served as the main surgeon. Dr Lydia Ndang Sophie and Dr Hedungkiebe, Sr Specialist, supported the operations, along with several assisting staff members from the hospital and three Ophthalmic Assistants.

 

 

Earlier on 10th July 2023, Keyirangding Hegui, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Peren encouraged the patients to avail the rare opportunity citing the difficulties faced by the blinds which affects our economy and thanked the Medical department for providing the facilities while launching the free camp. The camp also saw the presence of Dr. Newete Lhomi, an Associate Professor from AIIMS, who volunteered to assist with operations on July 11, 2023
