The four-day Tsükhenyie Festival-cum-77th Annual Youth Day of the Pfutseromi Youth Organization (PYO) began on Friday at Pfutseromi village in Phek district under the theme, “Progress through Culture.”

Nagaland Tribal Affairs and Election Advisor H Tovihoto Ayemi inaugurated the Pfutseromi Village Community Hall in the presence of MLA Dr. Neisatuo Mero and other dignitaries. The hall was constructed by the Tribal Affairs Department.

Addressing the gathering, Ayemi lauded the role of PYO since its formation in 1947 and urged the organization to remain focused while continuing to serve the community.

Stressing unity, he said, “We as a Naga society, if we are to progress, we have to come together as one.”

Dr. Mero, extending festival greetings, said Tsükhenyie is a time to wear traditional attire, share the best food, and renew oneself physically and spiritually for future challenges.

He thanked Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for development initiatives across the state, particularly in the 16th Pfutsero Assembly Constituency and Pfutseromi village. He also thanked Ayemi for inaugurating the community hall and attending the celebration.

Calling on the youth to stay committed, Mero urged them to remain sincere and dedicated in an increasingly competitive world.

Earlier, PYO president Wekote Mero delivered the presidential address, while Pfutseromi Village Council chairman Lhiwepelo Ritse gave the keynote address.

The programme featured a traditional wind instrument competition, declaration of new PYO office bearers, and a vote of thanks by PYO advisor Neiwe Mero.

Tsükhenyie invokes fertility and rainfall for a fresh agricultural cycle and bountiful harvest, celebrating the rich heritage of the Chakhesang Nagas. The festival concludes on April 27 with the Tsükhenyie Wrestling Championship.
