Mokokchung, March 18 (MTNews): The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has on Friday allotted its party ticket to S Phangnon Konyak for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election scheduled to be held on March 31.

 

Konyak is the incumbent President of BJP Women Wing of Nagaland State Unit. BJP National General Secretary, Arun Singh, made the announcement in a press release issued today. The BJP also issued its ticket to Pabitra Margherita for Assam, Dr. Shikandra Kumar for Himachal Pradesh and Prof. Dr. Manik Saha for Tripura for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections to be held on March 31.

 

President of Nagaland BJP, TemjenImna Along, took to twitter to congratulate Phangnon Konyak. “Heartiest congratulations to BJP Nagaland State Mahila Morcha President for being selected as the candidate for the Biennial Election to the Council of States from Nagaland. Wishing you all the very best for the upcoming election,” Along tweeted.

 

NPF forms 7-member committee for Rajya Sabha Election in Nagaland

Meanwhile, AIR Kohima reported that the Secretary General of the Naga People’s Front, Achumbemo Kikon, said a committee comprising of 7 members from the party has been formed to pursue and examine on the upcoming Rajya Sabha Election in Nagaland which is due to be held on 31st of March.

 

Addressing some journalists at Kohima today, Kikon said, the working committee of the NPF held its meeting today to take stock of the upcoming Rajya Sabha election. He said the working committee deliberated at length on the possibility of filing a candidate.

 

He, however, said that NPF being part and parcel of the UDA government, it was decided to form a committee to pursue the matter and examine as well as coordinate with the NPF legislature wing. Kikon said, unlike other elections, Rajya Sabha election is within the domain of the elected members and as such, the party has decided to have more consultations and coordination with its elected members. Kikon further said NPF will definitely come up with a strategy.
