The 40th Sports Meet 2025 of the Sekrüzu Area Sports Association (SASA), in commemoration of its golden jubilee, commenced today at Sekrüzu town under Phek district.
Gracing the inaugural function as the special guest, Nagaland’s CAWD & Taxes advisor Kudecho Khamo asserted that sports are no longer just a recreational activity; the sports scenario has witnessed a sea of change and is gaining tremendous popularity globally. He stressed the need to take up sports seriously, adding that the era of associating sports solely with recreation or mere physical activity is over. He encouraged the younger generation to pursue sports as a career, noting that those who maintain competitive spirit, self-discipline, and dedication will never go unrewarded.
Emphasizing the need to adopt new strategies to face various challenges ahead, he also called upon the youth to exercise honesty and have faith in God in all their dealings to succeed in life.
Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) president Nezosa Tetseo and Centre Chakhesang Sports Association (CCSA) president Veposu Nienu also shared greetings, while Kiivesiih Veswiih, pastor of New Riizazho Baptist Church, led the act of jubilee blessings.
SASA president Miidotiizo Tetseo delivered the presidential address, while the welcome address was delivered by Miidongoi Swiiro, convenor of the Jubilee Organizing Committee.
SASA games & sports secretary Kuvoto Shijoh administered the oath to the eight participating teams: Phiihgi, Khiitsa, Sekriizu, Siithozu, Riizazho, Siithozu Nasa, Thiiriitsiiswii, Dziilha, and New Riizazho.
The players will vie for top honors in football, volleyball, basketball, Naga wrestling, and track and field events. The tournament will continue until January 18.
