The 15th Chizami Women’s Day, known locally as Nitsümi Zah Mehpu, was observed on Wednesday at Theza in Chizami Village, Phek district, under the aegis of the Chizami Women Society. Women from the village and neighbouring areas gathered to reflect on shared responsibilities, family values and community life.
Zhonelu Tunyi, President of the Chakhesang Mothers’ Association, addressed the programme and described women’s gatherings as important platforms for bringing about positive change in society. She acknowledged the role of men as an important support system in the lives of women and families. In her address, she spoke on the evolving responsibilities of women in a changing world and encouraged them to stand firm in truth while fulfilling their duties within the family and society. She said love and respect within the household form the foundation of a healthy society and reflected on the biblical symbolism of woman being created from the rib of man, representing companionship and care.
Tunyi also highlighted the role of parents, particularly when children go outside the village for education or employment. She stressed the need for proper guardianship and consistent care, drawing a comparison with farming, where crops require regular nurturing to grow. She encouraged parents to maintain openness within families and cautioned against placing excessive expectations on children. Touching on mobile phone usage, she spoke about both its benefits and drawbacks, and called on women to extend motherly care to all children without discrimination.
Concluding her message, she urged women to lead lives rooted in faith, integrity and prayer, citing Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Kewepelo Tsuhah, Chairman of the Chizami Village Council, delivered a word of encouragement, affirming women as a gift from God and highlighting their roles as caretakers and peacemakers. Earlier, CWS Chairperson Kezunyipe-u Tsuhah welcomed the gathering and called for continued unity and cooperation. The programme was led by Welou Chirhah, with the vote of thanks delivered by Welhizou Wetsah, Vice Chairperson of CWS.
