The Phek District Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union (PDNCSU) has expressed concern over the progress of the ongoing Kohima–Jessami 2-lane road construction under Package II, following a spot verification conducted on March 14, 2026.
During the inspection, the union stated that only limited machinery and manpower were found at the construction site. According to PDNCSU, the equipment observed included three excavators, eight dumper trucks, one road roller, one mini excavator and two water tankers, all of which were reportedly hired and not company-owned.
The union raised concern over what it described as slow progress in the execution of the project being undertaken by Ratna Company.
Following the verification, PDNCSU held a meeting with officials of Ratna Company at its base camp at Sedzü Bridge, where issues related to project progress were discussed. The union expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of work and sought clarity on completion timelines.
An agreement was later reached between PDNCSU and Ratna Company on March 14, under which Project Manager AS Vinod Kumar agreed to complete blacktopping of a 600-metre stretch between Kikruma village and North Kikruma (R.D Block) by April 15, 2026.
However, during a follow-up inspection on April 25, 2026, the union stated that the agreed target had not been met.
A subsequent meeting was held with Ratna Company representatives, including Project Manager A.S. Vinod Kumar and Structural Engineer Itobo Assumi, where the matter was reviewed.
PDNCSU has now decided to summon General Manager Murthy Mahankli of Ratna Company to appear before the union by May 15, 2026, to discuss the matter further. It stated that further steps may be taken depending on the response.
The union has also urged the concerned authorities to review the progress of the project and ensure timely completion of the road work.
