The Women Development Cell (WDC) of Phek Government College (PGC) celebrated International Women’s Day on 8 March 2025 by organizing a flashmob in Phek town, wherein the students displayed important messages and quotes on women’s causes through placards. The program started with an opening remark by Dr H Atoholi Sema, Assistant Professor and Convener of WDC.
The District Administration and SANKALP-District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti, Department of Social Welfare, Phek, in collaboration with the Women Development Cell, Phek Government College, and Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Phek, organized a program to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8th March 2025 at the Town Council Hall, Phek. The program was led by Vileno K Thisa, District Mission Coordinator, DHEW, Phek. Invocation was pronounced by Nyanbeni Odyuo, Women Leader, Lotha Baptist Church, Phek town. The welcome note was delivered by Kevineinuo Rio, DPO & DNO Mission Shakti, Phek.
Dr Pritpal Kaur, IPS, SP Phek, was the guest speaker. She emphasized the prevailing gender inequality in the socio-economic and political context and exhorted women to support and work together towards a progressive society. She encouraged and challenged women to rise in all areas of life and accelerate their actions to achieve gender parity. Dr. Tsotalu Nakro, Assistant Professor, PGC, shared a message on the significance of IWD and the status of Naga women in society. Sakulu Lohe and Vetsotalu Venuh, along with Methseu, Legal Case Worker, Sakhi-OSC, Phek, delivered a speech on “Legal Rights for the Safety and Security of Women and Girls.”
At the end, a vote of thanks was delivered by Wetsutso Mero, Specialist in Financial Literacy, DHEW, Phek. The program was followed by a ‘Flower Show Competition,’ and college teachers also participated and won prizes in the competition.
