The very first Annual College Fest was organized by the Literary, Cultural, and Performing Arts department of Phek Government College from October 7 to 8, 2024, under the theme “Therinye.” According to an update received here, this theme represents a post-harvest festival marking the end of a bountiful year and evokes good health and prosperity. It aims to symbolize the beginning of hope, success, and prosperity, urging students to seize every opportunity and reap the rewards of their hard work.
The first day was inaugurated by John Tsulise Sangtam, NCS, Deputy Commissioner of Phek, who inspired the students by encouraging them to work hard and take advantage of every opportunity presented to them. He emphasized that there is no joy in celebrating without success, highlighting that hard work and dedication are vital.
The Principal of Phek Government College, Dr T Tiakaba Jamir, addressed the students on the occasion, discussing the changing education system, which increasingly requires skill-based and creative thinking. The concept of organizing the college fest aims to foster students’ talents and skills while providing a platform to enhance their abilities.
The events included various competitions such as solo performances, quartets, poetry, debates, essay writing, and prepared speeches.
The special guest for the second day was Col Chundawat PS, SC, Commandant of 38 Assam Rifles, Phek, who expressed gratitude towards the college and the community at large for their ongoing support. He praised the Nagas for being true to themselves and honest, elucidating the importance of youth in bringing change and working towards nation-building. He stressed that while academics are crucial, extracurricular activities should never be neglected to foster personal growth.
On the second day, activities such as cosplay, dance, photography, videography, painting, and war cry competitions were conducted, with participants from Government Higher Secondary Schools in Phek and Chozuba, as well as students from Christian Mission Higher Secondary School, Phek.
A street play on mental health, presented by the District Mental Health Program and District Hospital, Phek, highlighted the importance of mental well-being. The program also included exhibitions from the Model Career Centre (MCC) and registration for the Ayushman Bharat Yojana and Internship Program by the Entrepreneur Associates, Nagaland.
The fest concluded with an extravagant session featuring artists from across the districts. The event was sponsored by TAFMA Phek Unit, Evening Smashers, and the National Service Scheme of the college.
