The Phek Town Council (PTC) has completed one year of its formation on July 9.

Addressing the gathering at the 1st Anniversary celebration at PTC Conference Hall, PTC chairperson Shevohu Nienu said “We came together with a shared vision to build a cleaner, greener and more progressive Phek.”

Today, he said, as we look back, it is not just to reflect but to recognize the progress made and renew our commitment to the path ahead.

During one year in office, Nienu said that the PTC has done 4 km black topping of the town road with proper drainage system.

The PTC has also initiated town beautification, renovation of PTC office, construction of PTC gate and designation of a one- stop shopping (Bazaar) area in the main town.

Nienu thanked Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio and his cabinet colleagues for successful conduct of the ULB elections in Nagaland in 2024 after a gap of 20 years.

Also thanking Nagaland’s power & parliamentary affairs minister KG Kenye, the PTC chairperson said that the journey ULB polls was not easy as it was marked by legal, administrative, and social hurdles.

“However, this present opposition less government showed the courage to resolve it in an inclusive and forward-looking manner,” he said.

Nienu lauded Zhaleo Rio, Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs for ensuring fair and impartial distribution of the development packages to 3 municipal and 36 town councils in the state.

He also praised MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, Leader. NPF Legislature party for his advice and support-physically, politically and financially to the PTC.

Further, he thanked the district administration and all the departments for their support and collaboration, Phek Town Public Organization, Phek Town Chakhesang Student’s Union, Phek Town Women Society, Phek Town Youth Society and all the ward chairmen, GBs /Churches, NGOs etc. for their community spirit and partnership.

Also thanking the general people of Phek town for their trust, patience, suggestions and constructive criticism, Nienu said “As a team of the Phek Town Council, we continue to value transparency, accountability and inclusivity in every decision we make.”

“Our vision for Phek Town must grow toward better roads, safer communities, livelihood opportunities and digital governance. Let us build not just a town to live in but a town to thrive in,” he said.

He also told that gathering that the Town council is not a power. It is a platform. A platform for the people, by the people.

“Together, we have made a start. Together, we will go farther. And together, we shall build Phek that the next generation will be proud to inherit,” he added.

Earlier, Thejakhrienuo Nisa, ADC and EO PTC also spoke at the program.

The programme was chaired by PTC deputy chairperson Chetezo Akami while Rev Dr Thupuchiyi Khesoh, Pastor Phek Town Baptist Church invoked God’s blessings.
