There has been much discussion about various efforts made by the Centre over the years to strengthen the Indo-Myanmar ties, but with Modi government taking the ‘Act East Policy’ more seriously as is evident from the Union Minister of State (MoS) Dr L Murugan visit to Avangkhu in Phek district for the first time today, the relationship could, perhaps, be further strengthened.
Avangkhu village in Phek district is one of many villages that have a close relationship with Nagas across the border in Myanmar. Union MoS Dr L Murugan flew into the remote village from Phek HQs in a chopper and held a meeting at the International Trade Centre in Avangkhu.
Murugan in the meeting talked about Modi Government’s commitment towards developing the North East including the border areas of the region and quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that the last village is India’s first village.
And in the meeting today, the MoS also announced that the two lane road up to Avangkhu border has already been sanctioned and that the work will start soon.
“This will pave the way for the development of border regions,” he said and expressed hope that the International Trade Centre at Avangkhu will also witness increased business activities due to increase in trade volume and better connectivity.
According to a PIB report, the Union Minister along with other officials also visited the India-Myanmar border to take stock of the exact situation prevailing there.
According to the MoS, the Avangkhu villagers told him that they are very happy to see development activities taking place in the Northeast region.
An interesting discussion is worth comment. I think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
