Dr. Olemjungla, a physiotherapist by profession and the proprietor of Physio Ki, discussed with Mokokchung Times about the benefits of Physiotherapy and shared briefly about her healthcare clinic, Physio Ki.
‘Physio Ki’, located at Arkong ward, Mokokchung Town, is a Physiotherapy clinic owned and managed by Dr. Olemjungla. Her mission to give affordable and quality health care services to people prompted her to start Physio Ki, which was inaugurated on World Physiotherapy Day on September 8, 2021.
Her life as a physiotherapist began with her graduation in Physiotherapy from West Bengal, from where she went on to work at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon, and later at Healthcare at Home, Delhi – a leading home healthcare service provider in India.
Speaking to Mokokchung Times, she said, in her experience, locals often confuses between physiotherapists and ‘massage people’ or chiropractors (kobiras) and hopes people learn the difference between the two in time.
“Physiotherapists work on gross motor skills such as sitting, standing, and walking, as well as improvement in flexibility, strength and endurance,” she said. She also added that Physiotherapy is a specialist treatment of various injuries, diseases and disorders as it helps in restoring function and movement in the area that has been affected.
Sharing her opinion regarding why people prefer ‘Kobiras’ over Physiotherapy, she opined that people tending to seek quick results is one of the leading reasons. “Very often, Physiotherapy exercises and treatment takes time but are better for the long run and the effects are permanent. Our people tend to seek quick results which of course is mostly temporary, and hence, their preference for kobiras,” she explained.
She further added that mainland Indians and people from other countries are far more serious and knowledgeable about physiotherapy and its benefits as compared to the people in the locality.
“Massage helps in immediate relaxation of painful muscle spasms but physiotherapy helps in rehabilitating the muscle and joint functions and aids in the patient’s mobility, function and well being,” she said.
Stressing on how ‘crucial’ Physiotherapy is for the public, in general, she discussed how it is suitable for people of any age, including babies and children.
“Physiotherapy is not limited to a certain age. It also helps babies and children with Delayed Milestones, Cerebral Palsy, etc. in their development, rehabilitation, and improvement of movement skills and performance,” she added.
Sharing about her future goals, she expressed her desire to provide better facilities and educate more people about physiotherapy while employing more people in her center.
